If you
have never participated in online trading...
written
by Echoes Hub Moderator, WildThing
If you hear the words "music" hub", and it causes you to break out
in a panic, then I want to share with you a little story...
I first discovered live recordings of the band Pink Floyd in
college. I tried every way possible to get some of these live
recordings of my favorite band. First, it was cassette trades via
the mail. I found a trader in Tennessee that had hundreds of these
cassettes, and so I made a deal with the guy, paying him off in
blanks and postage to have them duped. The very first shipment I got
from him, the recordings were all buggered up. The guy's recording
deck was shot, and all of the recordings came out real s-l-o-w...
The guy from TN said he could not afford a new deck, so that ended
that for the time.
Several years later, I got my first CD burner. I tried to contact
the man from Tennessee again, and wondered if the man would let me
rip the cassettes to CD, and I would make a copy for him as well.
The man from Tennessee never responded.

Time passed, and I started looking again for a place to fulfill my
desire for live music recordings. I installed some torrenting
software, and started visiting the torrent sites. The selection
there was very limited, and it was almost impossible to get any help
when I ran into problems. I started to get consumed with ratios, and
it seemed that no matter if I was the first person to jump on a
torrent, I couldn't get my ratio where I wanted or thought it should
be. It had to be 'fixed' I figured.
Then one day, as I Googled for Pink Floyd bootlegs, I came across a
site that boasted hundreds of RoIOs FREE and I felt like I had found
the mother lode! But there had to be a catch, right?
WildThing, worried there's a catch
I signed up and downloaded the free software at
http://www.echoeshub.com/, logged onto the site, still waiting for
the carpet to be pulled out from under me, waiting for that pop-up
to jump out saying "Please send money to continue", but it never
happened.
As
soon as I logged on to the Echoes Hub, there were people there
asking if I needed any help to get started. "Hell yeah, I need help!
I don't have a clue what I am doing!" The friendly moderators and
members helped bring me along, and soon I was downloading a treasure
trove of live music recordings. There were no ratios to be concerned
about, there were no blanks and postage to deal with, there were
very helpful people to educate me on a variety of issues. Within
months I had stored up hundreds of Pink Floyd live recordings, far
surpassing the collection of my hookup in Tennessee.
And
that was just the tip of the iceberg. I had at my very fingertips
live recordings from every other band imaginable: Black Sabbath,
Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, The Beatles...you name it, it is there. I
quickly filled my first 500GiB hard drive, then bought another
750GB, and then a 1TiB, and another, filling them with audio and
video of music from every band imaginable.
And
the completely interactive nature of the site allows me to talk with
real people in real time, and I have made friends there, real
friends from all over the world, all gathered together discussing
our common interests.
That was almost one and a half years ago, and I am still finding new
musical treasures every day, still learning new things on a variety
of issues, still making new friends from around the world...
BTW, I'm really not that worried fellow in that picture above. But if you
feel kinda like that or are intimidated by the words 'music hub', don't be.
Upon your arrival, you're
going to wish that you made the jump a long time ago. Please come
see for yourself at:
http://www.echoeshub.com
and hunt me down if
you want any Tesla...

The
Secret Gig!
International stars Amadou and Mariam have confirmed a very special
collaboration with
David Gilmour
for Crisis Hidden Gigs. This unique
performance will take place on Monday 25th May 2009 in an intimate
venue in central London and is the only confirmed live appearance
from the British legend this year. However the venue will remain
'hidden' until 24-hours before the gig, when a text or email will be
sent to ticket holders.
The
one-off live collaboration with
David Gilmour
for Crisis aims to
raise awareness of and money for hidden homeless people in the UK.
The series of Crisis Hidden Gigs throughout May and June will be an
opportunity to see acts in intimate, unusual spaces - making for a
unique musical experience.
By withholding details until the last minute, Crisis aims to raise
awareness of the precarious situation facing hidden homeless people,
who often don't know where they will end up each night and are often
forced to move from place to place.
Talking about the forthcoming performance
David Gilmour said, "The
global financial crisis has led to a human crisis in the UK.
Thousands of people are losing their jobs and many will see their
homes repossessed. As a long-term supporter of Crisis, I have seen
how its life-changing services help to transform homeless people’s
lives. I am performing with Amadou and Mariam to help raise vital
funds at a time when Crisis' services are needed more than ever."
The Crisis Hidden Gigs was officially launched by Hot Chip at
Village Underground and forthcoming gigs include:
Dodgy and The Bluetones on Sunday, May 17th.
Starsailor, Bombay Bicycle Club, and Portico Quartet on Tuesday,
June 2nd.
Pendulum, and Zane Lowe on Wednesday, June 17th.
