Lossless files are traded here at Echoes Hub because they are identical to the original recording. When you compress audio files using the mp3 format or similar lossy compression, some of the audio spectrum in that recording is permanently lost. There is no way to get it back because it gets deleted to crunch the file small in size. This degrades the sound quality. Did you know? Lossless compression is true to its name in that it retains all the information in the recording - nothing is lost. When you extract a FLAC file you get the original lossless .WAV file the recording was made with.

Our lossless music recordings are generally shared in the form of lossless SHN (Shorten) or lossless FLAC (Free Lossless Audio Codec) files. Lossless audio files are a lot larger than mp3s and result in taking up a lot more space on your hard drive. Warning: Whether you are an archivist or an elitist, be prepared to start investing in storage space because this is the direction you want to head. Hard drives are becoming very inexpensive so start replacing your lossy recordings with lossless and signup today.
