This is over one-third of the complete concert. TT: 37:51 I'm grading this (as always, "IMHO") as a good to good plus tape, 5-6/10; see reasons below... Lineage: Unknown mic > unknown analog tape recorder > unknown master tape > TDK D90 normal bias cassette tape, 2nd gen > SONY TC-WE805S stereo cassette deck > AIWA XC-RW700 CD/CD recorder (tracked songs here) > Memorex Black CD-R 80 min. music CD-R > Cakewalk Pyro 2005 (retracked and edited wav files here) > Trader's Little Helper (encoded wav to flac, level 8, aligned on sector boundaries) I was NOT at this show but remember hearing rave reviews of it from my friends who went. This is my final offering of Black Sabbath Civic Arena tapes from the 70s and I've saved the worst for last. THIS TAPE IS REALLY ROUGH TO LISTEN TO ; YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED !!!!! I've upped it at the request of several Black Sabbath fanatics and also to repay the great people of Dime who've enlarged my CD collection. This is ~ one-third of the entire concert and is a difficult tape to listen to because the quality is pretty bad. This was probably taped on a small portable reel-to-reel deck with dirty magnetized heads using cheap tape and a crappy mic. I have NO idea where the other two-thirds of the show is and I don't understand why the taper taped the long guitar/drum solo instead of getting regular songs. The answers to these questions are lost to the ages. I'll make this fairly short & sweet ; here are the good & bad points of this recording: The good points: 1) There are no serious speed problems with this show. A little wow and flutter, no real speed ups/slow downs and it sounds to me like it runs at the correct speed. 2) The signal is STRONG. This is NOT a "distant" recording ! It sounds like the groovy teenagers who taped this show were VERY close to the stage. 3) Amazingly, there is very little distortion in this recording. 4) This is the RAW tape. I did NOT attempt any EQing, "remastering", etc. You're getting what I have. The only thing that I did was to convert the tape into individual tracks. 5) I'm very sure that this tape is fairly uncirculated and rare AT THIS GENERATION LEVEL. Grab it if you want it..... The bad points: 1) There is a constant background rumble or whoosh to this tape which you can hear on headphones. It's audible all the time but you get used to it. Remember, you're hearing 1972 ! 2) The tape DOES sound like it was made on really cheap equipment but what can you do ? At least we have this historic document... 3) There is some hiss present. 4) There is talking courtesy of those aforementioned groovy kids who taped this (one of whom sounds like a child !) but it's not real intrusive and they do shut up fairly quickly. 5) Again, most people would consider this a "for completists only" tape. If you've been following the stuff that I upload, I think you'll agree that virtually all of it sounds fine to excellent. THIS IS NOT ONE OF THOSE. IF YOU LIKE CRISP, CLEAR RECORDINGS, DON'T DOWNLOAD THIS !! AGAIN, YOU'VE BEEN WARNED... That's about all that I have to say, so let's wrap this up. As always, if you have a better-sounding version of this concert, by all means PLEASE UPLOAD IT!!! If you wish to remaster this show AND YOU KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOING, go ahead and remaster it as long as you up it here on Dime for everybody to enjoy. No buy, no sell, no mp3. Please seed this as long as you can. This 2nd gen tape has NOT been widely circulated so JUMP ON IT !!! I will post a sample shortly for those of you still undecided. Well, thanks for reading this and Mr. Natural would like to add these few comments: have fun, don't freak out, remember that Ozzy is very proud that you're high and by all means, enjoy the concert!!!
