And for a reason. The band delivers an outstanding soulful and beautiful acoustic performance; the simple yet poignant lyrics and melodies are allowed to shine and live to their fullest in the all-acoustic setting. Yet even the more rocking songs in this set - especially the incredible closer White, Discussion - are played with passion and none of their edge and energy are sacrificed compared to the usual electric performances. Spectacular moments include an excellent Operation Spirit, the omnipresent Lightning Crashes - probably Live's most successful single ever; an intense rendition of T.B.D. and a haunting cover of Vic Chesnutt's Supernatural - aptly described as "Absolutely the most beautiful song ever written by a human being" by singer Ed Kowalczyk - this is in fact the exact performance of this song that made its way onto the Vic Chesnutt tribute album Sweet Relief II later on. Even White, Discussion - a song that usually provides the canvas for loud distorted electric guitar jamming and soloing - turns out to be one of the outstanding parts of this unplugged performance, tightly performed and with the band literally beating the crap out of their instruments for minutes straight. Consider this an essential recording that should be in the collection of all lovers of rock music.
