What can you say? It's KISS "The Hottest Band In The World". I had put away my Kiss Alive! album over 30 years ago after wearing out the grooves. I hadn't given them much thought until they came to Sunrise in October 2009. I wasn't going to attend that show but several of my friends were going and I found that there were some cheap tickets available. We got our nosebleed seats and were blown away for two hours of spectacle. I vowed then to never miss another Kiss show if I could help it. When I learned that they'd be playing at the Hard Rock, my favorite venue for attending (and taping) shows, it was a no brainer that I'd be there. This concert was the last of three of a mini tour that wasn't a tour that included shows in San Juan, Puerto Rico and Houston. The Hollywood Hard Rock Live is a smaller venue that seats just over 5000. That Kiss would be performing here was quite surprising. They rarely play venues of this size but they brought their full show, pyro and all. The only elements missing were Gene flying to the rafters and Paul sailing over top of the audience probably due to the size of the place. The show was for all intents, sold out, and the place was packed. Though they didn't start until almost 9pm, Kiss gave us two full hours. Shannon Tweed caused a bit of a stir when she appeared near the mixing desk and mingled with fans before the show. "Shock Me" is the vehicle for both Tommy's and Eric's solos. Usually guitar and drum solos are kinda boring. Combining them in this manner is a better way of presenting them in my opinion. "Lick It Up" had to be restarted because Eric hadn't retaken his position behind the drums right away after singing "Beth". The band finished with "Rock And Roll All Nite" filling the Hard Rock in a confetti blizzard and driving the crowd to final ecstasy. About half way through the show, my wife endeavored to get down to the floor level. She eventually made it to the 2nd row, snagging a Tommy Thayer guitar pick for her picks and sticks collection. One thing that Kiss strives for is to give all attending their money's worth, they never phone it in. They want everybody to come back again and again. It's no small wonder that they have a huge and fiercely loyal fan base that spans several generations. There is a circus atmosphere surrounding these shows with many fans donning make up and some, like my friend Alex, dressing in full costume. While the musical merits of the band can be debated, they put on one hell of a spectacular rock show. They are indeed over the top and almost comical but that is truly part of the magic that is Kiss. It's all about escaping the troubles of the real world for a few hours of rock and roll fantasy. Attending at least one Kiss concert should be on everyone's bucket list. This is NOT a copy of the master recording. It has been altered in the following ways: levels adjusted and normalized including some limiting to knock down the transient peaks and of course the explosions, fades added at disc transitions, downsampled to 16 bit and tracks split all to make it compatible with audio CD format. No equalization or other sound alterations have been applied. Some pictures I took and rudimentary artwork included. Support the artists. Attend their shows and purchase their music and merch. http://www.kissonline.com/ Please DO NOT sell. Please DO NOT distribute in lossy format. Please DO share freely and enjoy! Peace, John G.
