This was the 2nd time that I had ever seen the Very Reverend Horton Heat, the 1st being seven years before this in Milwaukee, WI at The Unicorn (a recording that I've already upped twice). By this time, I had graduated from a good quality analog recorder to a good quality minidisc recorder with adjustable recording levels, so this recording is much better than the 1st one. The Elbow Room in Columbia, SC was a small seedy club in "Five Points", a college area where the cool kids still go to get drunk and hear music. IIRC, the night that I saw this show, the club was having problems with the men's room, so if you had to go, you went next door to the drug store. Definitely upper crust...The band played on a tiny elevated stage and Dash Rip Rock opened. That band was NOT recorded. This show has never circulated (at least not THIS version) so you are grabbing a VERY rare show. I stood very close to the stage and there is little to no audience noise to contend with ; at least no close aud chatter. The crowd there was amazingly well-behaved. They were there to see the Archbishop of The Rock and Roll Diocese of Dallas, Texas and were respectful of the artist. A few words now about the recording... The recording turned out to be extremely good ; there were only 2 flaws, one of which was my fault. There is a 4 second dropout in Track 05 which was caused by a defect in the Memorex minidisc that I used as a master. I know that minidisc recorders are a dying technology with ZOOMs and Edirols, etc. now being in the forefront but I still use my units when I feel like it. If you are a taper & use MDs, STAY AWAY FROM MEMOREX DISCS ! I used them a LOT until I started noticing small dropouts here and there on my masters. The last straw happened when a Memorex ruined a Cheap Trick concert that I recorded in North Charleston, SC over 5 years ago. I'm still cryin' over that one and haven't used Memorex since. BE WARNED !!! The dropout was flawlessly welded luckily so it's of no consequence. The flaw that WAS my fault involved guessing where to stop the recorder to insert a new disc. I was unsure where to do the switch so I waited too long and switched at the end of Track 19. A little of Track 20 was lost and I offer 1000 apologies. What the fuck can I say ? I guessed wrong. But there's only a little bit missing so it's not that bad. Hey motherfucker, deal with it !!! HA HA HA HA HA ! There's a tiny bit of mild clipping when the audience screams but no distortion and the sound is crystal-clear. The Rev was drinking shots of Jagermeister on stage so it's one of those (great) concerts ! It was a wonderful second concert for me (I've seen RHH a bunch of times since then and gosh, did I record any of them ? Wow, I don't recall...) and it will be for you too. That's about all that I have, so let's get this concert on the golden road to spiritual enlightenment....... Finally, no buy, no sell, no mp3. Please seed this as long as you can. If you're a RHH fan, you NEED this tape. A very high-energy show in which everybody shines. I will post samples shortly for those of you still undecided, but I think you'll find that this is an excellent recording and a fine addition to any RHH fan's collection. Well, thanks for reading this and Mr. Natural would like to add these few comments: have fun, have a shot of Jagermeister in The Very Reverend's honor and by all means, enjoy the concert!!! jojogunne 3/27/2011 Remember the motto: I got a wiggle stick, mama, and you'll like it a lot...
