  • 1970 ~ ZZ TOP LIVE IN PENSACOLA FLORIDA Master Tape / Stand alone CD Burner / low gen CD / Soundforge Audio extract / Flac This is the oldest known live recording of ZZ Top to date. It just surfaced in September 2005. Quite a nice recording considering it's age. Gives a good look at what ZZ was doing real early on. Sounds like a fairly small and relaxed venue. This is an absolutely beautiful performance. Announcer says "Budding artists from the Lone Star State, hold up your head and dig Z Z Top! 1) Thunderbird Billy says "Yeah man! A little rockin and rollin' going on tonight huh? We're sorry about this mess up here and the sound and things eh!" followed by some intentional guitar feedback. "We're gonna try to do the best we can, how bout something off our first album, somebody else has been shakin' your tree.." 2) Someone Else Been Shakin' Your Tree 3) Gonna Ride Away (On A Rainy Day) (I Feel So Bad) (Vocals by Dusty) 4) Neighbor, Neighbor (Awesome!) Billy says "Thank you man! How about a little blues for ya?" 5) Just Got Back From Baby's (Beautiful 7 minute extended version) Billy says "Yeah we're sure a long way from home but tonight you're making us feel so good. Yeah. Feeling kind of good tonight we are. Last night we were playing un uhm, Shreveport. We were down way down in Louisiana and I said man, I tell everybody down in Texas the same thing I tell everyone in Louisiana, and I tell all the men, you outta do this. I even tell all the ladies down in Texas that you outta do this, go down to Mexico. 6) Going Down To Mexico (Wicked 7 minute extended version!) 7) Down Brownie 8) Rattlesnake Shake (Very unusual extended 10 minute long version) 9) Unknown Instrumental ADDITIONAL NOTES: My poor abused memory has me now remembering that the show was in the Pensacola Junior College gym. There is plenty of room for doubt though and I was not at the show. From the sound its obvious that it was a larger venue and there were only a few in the area at the time, the UWF field house, the PJC gym, the Municipal Auditorium and a couple of other spots that rarely had music.
