Knopfler introduces "Skateaway" talking about the streets of New York City. A few seconds of "Romeo and Juliet" are missing, but it doesn't spoil the song. One of the best recordings of 1980, great versions and the complete setlist. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Enlight note: Great show during the 1980/1981 "On location Tour" Strange and Stupid(imho) intro speech by the announcer, telling a secret to the audience that he was backstage with the guys (dire straits) and that they are really shy because the are English men and that the audience must act wild when they come out otherwise they would be scared....you can cleary hear somebody responding to the announcer with a simple "Shut the F*ck off". Dire Straits was in an experimental fase back then , and its great to hear how they were dealing with that. The 78/79 songs were different than during the 78 and 79 tour, listen for example to the great outro of "News"( with the recognisable private investigation tune) and "Single handed sailor" stunning outro (see sample) Mark tells the audience that he wrote "Skateaway" when he was walking the streets of New York city not so long ago....A nice responce become his part. One kid must have been very happy, because he was yelling "skateaway" after the first song. Solid rock was the closure song, which was rare back then , but it is a stunning version! If you, like me , have been going through the 2011 Mark Knopfler (supporting Bob) shows for the last weeks, which were generously shared (THX for that Boys and Girls), this early straits gig can be a welcome change , well for me it is.......but keep the 2011 gigs comming please, i can change back in a blink of an eye!!
