Central Rain (I'm Sorry) - Red Rain - Dust Bowl Michael Stipe - Vocals Peter Buck - Guitar, Mandolin Mike Mills - Bass Guitar, backing vocals Bill Berry - Drums, backing vocals with Peter Holsapple - Guitar, keyboards Show notes: A cracking R.E.M. show, the band in magnificent form and firing on all cylinders. The encores in particular make this show memorable, with Tusk-Another Brick In The Wall particularly memorable - I don't recall Michael ever singing a Pink Floyd song before or after this occassion. And don't skip Michael's talking after Finest Worksong, his story about Bertis Downs and his poor French has been told at other shows (notably the widely circulated Utrecht 1987 show), but Michael tells it really well here and clearly gets a kick out of teasing Bertis in front of native French speakers. The crowd are really into the show, and it was rare to get a third encore on this leg of the tour, but the crowd were rewarded with a sublime So. Central Rain (with a snippet of Peter Gabriel's 'Red Rain' thrown in) to close the show. If you haven't heard this show I highly recommend a download! Recording notes: While not going to win any sound quality awards, this is a decent sounding audience recording, just lacking some 'crispness', and a few minor blemishes (small cuts/drop outs in Turn You Inside-Out and Stand). I received this on a CDR in a trade back in the early to mid 2000's. I'd never seen this torrented before so with 30 years now having passed since this show, it's time to get it more widely circulated. Enjoy! http://remtimeline.com/ for all your R.E.M. setlist needs!
